In 1984, Dermot F. Murphy created Tri-State Management Services (TSMS) to meet the printing, mailing and fulfillment needs of financial institutions in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tri-state metropolitan area. Well before postal automation and zip + 4 codes, Tri-State Management Services’ utilized its extensive experience in the mailing industry and excelled in the provisioning of trained, knowledgeable personnel for “production” mail services. TSMS delivered these services on premises at financial mailing firms, printers, and at a self-operated facility in New York.

In 1989, Tri-State Management Services discovered that its ability to provide knowledgeable, trained distribution services personnel was desired in the corporate arena when Bellcore (Bell Communications Research and Development) hired it to staff and operate its seven (7) corporate mail centers throughout New Jersey. At that time, a facility management division was created to concentrate on on-premises management of corporate mailrooms and related office services including copy center, records/file center, shipping, receiving, general facilities support, warehousing, audio/visual, conference room management, etc.

Over a period of 10 years thereafter, Tri-State Management Services assisted Bellcore in re-engineering its services. Numerous other corporate clients whose core businesses include research, engineering, financial services, education, legal and professional services, and not-for-profit activities also hired Tri-State Management Services.

The growth of Tri-State had been consistent and steady. In 1998, the ownership and senior management team of Tri-State Management Services renamed the company The Millennium Group, Inc. - a marketing approach designed to meet the facilities management and outsourcing needs of the new millennium for corporate clients nationwide. With this new marketing approach, The Millennium Group (TMG) shed the regional “pigeon-holing” of its parent and founding organization vertically expanding revenues and adding client locations across the U.S.

As a national provider, The Millennium Group continued to grow in a competitive market and added clients in the mid-west and the west coast. In February 2004, The Millennium Group, Inc. restructured to prepare for future growth. This restructuring included spinning off The Millennium Group’s business lines of revenue into two newly formed corporations - TMG Enterprises, Inc. and TMG Mail Solutions, Inc. The Millennium Group of Delaware, one of the newly formed corporations, acquired the assets and liabilities related to the Business Support Services revenue line to create a standalone financial profile.

The core business of The Millennium Group remains office support services and document management solutions. Today, The Millennium Group manages over 225 facilities in addition to operating its own document management facilities in New Jersey, New York and Florida. In early 2010, The Millennium Group rounded out its mission to furnish end-to-end document management services with the acquisition of a local document destruction firm. The Millennium Group now provides services to accommodate every stage of the document lifecycle from creation and distribution to storage and destruction.
